After all those ancient stones now ancient animals. Wow! It turned out to me that the Scenic By-way Highway 89 was a bit like a travel trough time. Just a couple of miles later I came through Glendale, a small town on the way south and I found some other relicts from the elder days.

Before we split Johnny told me about Zion, a National Park on my way to Las Vegas if I don’t drive straight back to the Interstate. I planned anyway to go parallel to the quick connection I-15 on the so-called “Scenic By-way” and after leaving Bryce I turned left onto Highway 89. The whole area is full with nice views and beautiful landscapes and I enjoyed that trip very much. Until the moment I stamped onto the breaks:

The deer ran straight in front of my hood across the street, happily stretched over the fence and left me standing there on the road with a running engine. “At least I got your picture”, I thought whilst I gaze around a bit more. There was a windmill and behind it some ...? I leered over my sunglasses, took them down and rubbed my eyes: Bison?

Sometimes the sun almost hid itself behind this scenery when I arrived at the front gate of Zion National Park. Handy, the route through Zion was exactly my way down to Las Vegas, not so good was the surprise I got when I was asked to pay 25$ to go through. The alternative would have been a detour of more than 150 mls but I reminded Johnny’s words on Zion so I grabbed the Nat’l Park Newspaper and squeezed onto the road between the mountains as I went deeper and deeper into it.
